CITES protected chelonians in the markets
The definition of CITES is: "CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is an international agreement between governments. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival." (from the CITES web site )
The CITES listing of each of the following species as well as their countries of origin are listed along with market pictures of said species in the ensuing pages (market prices are as of spring, 2002). A further listing of some CITES protected chelonian species found in the markets for which there are no photographs can be found in a later section of this document titled "Turtle or Tortoise species not photographed or not seen in the markets".
