The Temple Turtles of Sang Poh Tong - Page 4 - Chris Tabaka DVM
Towards the back of the worship area, a tunnel hewn out of the surrounding stone had the following signage directing people to the turtle pond beyond.
The practice of bringing turtles for release in the temple ponds is rooted in Buddhist beliefs. It is thought that by releasing the turtle into the so called "liberation pond" or "sacred turtle pond", that this act of freedom will liberate the releaser spiritually as well as the turtle physically.

This tunnel in turn led out to a beautiful green area surrounded by cliffs hundreds of feet high.
