Bird species available in the markets
There are a wide variety of birds available in the various markets. For example, in Beijing, several hundred hatchling common mynahs were being hand fed by the pet market owners while waiting to be sold. In Chengdu, a variety of standard fowl were available as well as some albino peacocks.
Pictured below are some chickens which were tied down to their roosts. Many of the birds in the various markets were restrained by string or twine.

In Guangzhou's Chou Tou market, the species ranged widely from the wild caught Lesser and Greater egrets pictured below

to Night herons

to tree sparrows

to a wide variety of pheasants, primarily captive bred, all the way up to the four ostrich pictured here.
